End an ordinary visitor route at a public car park

The historic centre has restricted traffic and the Civil Police administers access and parking permits. A destination inside that zone is not evidence that an ordinary visitor vehicle may enter.

Set a listed public car park as the practical road endpoint unless the driver holds a permit that expressly covers the vehicle, date and street. Follow police directions on busy or controlled days.

Choose parking by car, coach or motorhome

The Tourism Board distinguishes car parks from coach and motorhome facilities. Select the correct vehicle type and verify the current entry, payment, opening and stay conditions rather than using the nearest parking symbol.

Vehicle recognition or a parking ticket does not grant access to restricted streets beyond the facility. Confirm dimensions and any overnight rules before arriving with a larger vehicle.

Choose the onward transfer before arrival

P9 and nearby facilities connect to the historic centre by lifts, while P11 in Borgo Maggiore connects with the cable car. These are separate onward legs, not extensions of the road route.

Check current accessibility and operating information for the chosen transfer. The cable car can close for maintenance, and a seasonal shuttle timetable should not be assumed from an earlier visit.

Recheck event-day controls and available car parks

State visits, processions, races and other major events can create permit-only areas, close streets or remove parking. Published 2026 event controls show that even access to accommodation and particular car parks can change by hour.

Use the current Tourism Board and Civil Police notice for the travel date. Do not copy an expired event arrangement into a later route, but treat it as evidence that the final access must be rechecked.

Italian road rules apply until the boundary; San Marino's Civil Police manages local traffic, collisions and infringements inside the Republic. Carry the licence, registration and insurance valid for both jurisdictions.

For a rented or borrowed vehicle, confirm cross-border permission rather than assuming Italy-only authority extends automatically. A San Marino parking transaction does not prove insurance or vehicle-use permission.
